Why should we choose you?
I know you're probably surfing the web looking at dozens of photographers trying to find the one for you. It's so confusing to know which one to pick. May I suggest that you choose one whose style makes your heart sing. Can you imagine your family in the images on the website? Do you like the feeling you get from their images?
I want you to choose me because you want me to capture the connection you with your family. You should choose me because I have years of experience working with children and babies. I have 4 of my own, and a teaching degree that helps me every day. I guarantee my work because I want you to come back over and over again. I want to see your babies grow up, and document every step.
I am fully licensed, insured, pay business and sales taxes, and have multiple memberships in photography associations, such as the Professional Photographer's Association and the National Association of Child Photographers, where I continue my education year after year. If you do choose another photographer, especially with a newborn, make sure they are committed to safety, and have been properly educated.
I have all my immunizations up to date, which is important when working with children, especially newborns. I believe the safety and health of your child is more important than anything.
Do you have a studio?
Yes! My full service studio space is located at 893 Patriot Drive Unit B in Moorpark. It is located behind the popular Target shopping center located conveniently by the 23 freeway.
While I do have a studio space, I prefer to do my sessions outdoors. I love the look of natural light, and although I have studio lighting, I still prefer the flattering look of natural light. I find that children are much happier outdoors where they can run and play and share their natural smiles.
I use the studio primarily for newborn sessions and ordering sessions. I used to do online ordering and found that clients were just too overwhelmed. The process dragged on and on for weeks. The difference with coming into the studio is that it is done in about a half an hour, and you're done. I can even show you what your images will look like on your walls before you order anything. I can recommend which images and sizes will work for your home. If you would like to order the digital files and do it yourself, I am more than happy to help you. My goal is for you to end the experience happy and satisfied that you got the most out of your photo session.
What are your sessions like?
My goal is to create images for you that are filled with genuine smiles, laughs, and tender moments. We move around a lot through exploration and play. I am constantly searching for the best lighting, and gently guiding everyone to those spots. We play simple games to get everyone comfortable and smiling. I ask parents to not reprimand their children for not smiling. That's the surest way of getting them to be unhappy. I don't mind hyperactive children or the shy reserved ones. I am a mom of 4, and a former kindergarten teacher. I LOVE children, and have had a lot of success with them.
Of course I pay attention to things that would bother you in your final images, like smeared make-up, crazy hair, missing buttons, etc, but I don't want that to be the focus. It's my job to make you look good. I know you're not going to purchase images where you don't look your best. Your job is to focus on having fun with your family, and letting the stress and worry of your life melt away. I promise, if you do that you will absolutely fall in love with your images.
I want you to play and snuggle, and joke with one another. I ask you questions before the session so I can get to know a little more about you and your family's interests. These little bits of information help me connect with the children, and that makes it easier for them to trust me ,and be themselves around me.
How long is the session?
Each session is unique. For this reason I do not put a time limit on my sessions, and I don't book them back to back. I usually only have one or two a day. Most of them last about an hour, sometimes less, and sometimes more. Newborn sessions tend to be longer because the baby needs feeding and diapering changes.
How many pictures will I see from the session?
I guarantee you'll be presented with at least 25 images from your session. Sometimes you'll have a lot more than 25. It all depends on the type of session.
What type of pictures do you take during the session?
I include posed and candid images. I don't leave you on your own to guess what to do. I give you lots of direction so you feel comfortable and safe. Most people are unsure what to do with their arms, hands, etc. It's my job to help you through that.
FAMILIES - I like to start out with the whole family. It eases the discomfort of everyone when they are all in it together. We also break it down into smaller groups, and even individuals. This could mean mom and dad, just the girls, the boys, the kids, the sisters, the brothers, mom with kids, dad with kids, etc.
NEWBORNS - While the baby is the star of these sessions, I love to include the family. I love images with mom and baby, dad and baby, the siblings, and even grandma if she is there. Sometimes young siblings are not interested in a picture with their newborn baby, and I strongly believe you should not force it. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. It's such an emotional time for everyone when a baby is born.
INDIVIDUALS - When I have sessions with just one or two people it is so fun to find a location with lots of variety and visual interest. We move around the location to find unique lighting, and I ask you to sit, stand, even sometimes lay down. These sessions are great for High School seniors, models needing head shots, or just because.
Are the digital files included?
Digital files, or a USB drive of the images are not included in the session fee, however there are several ways of purchasing them. Any wall portrait includes a complimentary digital file of that image. All of my packages include digital files, and 3 of them include the whole set.
What should we wear?
For most moms this is the hardest part about getting their family pictures. I am here to help you! I know you want to look good, and I want that for you as well. When you book the session I will send you a welcome kit. This includes a section on what to wear, and also what not to wear. I even include the name and phone number of a fabulous personal stylist who will personally help you pick out amazing outfits. She will even help you choose from what you already have.
What location should we choose?
I always advise my clients to choose a location that is meaningful to you. Does your family love to cook together? Why not have the session right in your kitchen? Do you love to ride bikes at the local park? Let's go there and use the bikes in some images, and some without. Do you go to the beach every weekend? Then the beach is the perfect spot for your session. Sometimes you just can't think of anything that is special to your family, and that's OK. I have lots of suggestions for you.
What happens after the session?
After the session we make an appointment for you to view the images in person about 1-3 weeks after the session. Sometimes people think this will take too much of their time, but I promise it actually saves time. The 30 minutes we meet together is great for you to see the products I offer and hold them in your hands. You can see what wall displays look like, and I can even show you what it will look like on your wall before you purchase. There is no sitting at a computer screen feeling overwhelmed and not sure what to do with your images. I help you through the whole process to make it as easy as possible.
Are you from out of town, or would like your out of town family/friends to be able to purchase items? Don't worry I have an easy solution for that.
How long have you been a photographer?
Julie Campbell Photography is 9 years old, but I've always loved photography. It is a passion I never tire of. I will always be learning and trying to get better. It makes me happy, and I can't imagine not doing this. I feel like I have the best job ever.
What kind of camera do you use? Do you use Photoshop?
I use a Canon 5d Mark III and Canon 5d Mark II for all of my sessions. My favorite lens is the Canon 70-200mm L lens, but I also use the Canon 24-70 mm f/2.8, Canon 50mm f/1.4, and several other canon lenses. On the computer I use Lightroom and Photoshop. I go through each image and lightly retouch them to look the best they possibly can, but also retain the natural beautiful look of my subjects. Yes, I do smooth out a few wrinkles, and yes I can shave off a couple of pounds, but it is very subtle. I don't want anyone to look plastic.
