It's not too Early for Senior Portraits Class of 2020

Can you believe the class of 2020 is booking the senior portraits? Ugh, that makes me feel all kinds of old! 2020 sounds like such a futuristic date, but it’s almost here. I’m excited to photograph the seniors graduating next June. It’s not too early to book your session. In fact, here are the available dates for the rest of 2019. Click over there and book your session.

This senior portrait session has my heart. She’s gorgeous, and sweet, and has the best smile ever. I just loved hanging out with her at the beach that night. It was incredibly windy, and her mom was very concerned about her hair being too wind blown and crazy. I absolutely love how these all turned out, and you would never guess we were battling big winds in the process. This is a great example of a time when you should just relax and enjoy the moment. Don’t worry about the details you can’t control.

6 Ways to Look Fabulous in Every Photo

Whether you’re in front of a professional photographer or your 6 year old with an iPhone you do everything you can to look your best for that photo. Here are my favorite tips for looking great and loving yourself in all of your photos.

  • LOCATION & LIGHTING

    • Look for open spaces with lots of light. Great lighting will smooth out the wrinkles, and make you look younger.

    • Avoid busy backgrounds. YOU are the focus of the photograph.

    • I will take care of this for you at my photo sessions.

  • TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF

    • Drink LOTS of water to stay hydrated. This will reduce bloating and make your skin glow.

    • Stay away from alcohol to avoid puffiness

    • Get lots and lots of beauty sleep.

  • POSING IS EVERYTHING

    • Good posture always looks best. Elongate your body and keep your back straight.

    • Move your chin out and down. Practice this in the mirror beforehand. It really works!

    • Keep your hands busy, but visible. Tuck them in a pocket or on your waist.

    • Keep a gap between your waist and your arms to make you look slimmer.

    • Turn your body about 45 degrees, and angle your face and eyes forward while pushing your hips back.

    • Avoid any stiffness. Shake out your arms and shoulders.

  • WARDROBE

    • Wear clothes that you feel great in. Don’t wear anything you have to constantly adjust. If you can’t move around easily wearing it, choose something else.

    • Test out your outfits ahead of time. Look at yourself in all angles to make sure you like what you see.

  • HAIR AND MAKEUP

    • Getting your hair and make up done by a professional always makes you feel so much more confident and beautiful. It’s a great way to treat yourself.

    • If you do your own makeup make the colors a little bit bolder than you normally would.

    • Blow-outs are the best option for your hair to look great even when you’re moving around a lot.

    • Get your nails done to match your outfit.

  • FOCUS ON THE LOVE

    • If you forget everything mentioned above, this is the most important part of family photos. You are getting a family photo because you love your people more than anything. Focus on that, and love on them. Hug, kiss, snuggle, and get close to your partner and children. Make them the focus, and your insecurities will melt away.

    • Be sure to have a talk with your partner ahead of time. Talk to him about your need to have family photos, and ask him to focus on loving you through the photo shoot.

    • If your kids are acting up or not smiling perfectly, PLEASE DO NOT yell at them. This only makes for a cranky child, and even more cranky parents. Try to diffuse the situation by redirecting the child’s attention, making them laugh, or singing a song.

Sports all day every day

I LOVE that this family chose to make their family portraits completely customized to what they love, and what they do. The mom schleps her kids around to soccer practices and games every day, her husband coaches the baseball team. Their life is all about sports, and they wanted to highlight that for their family pictures.

What makes your family unique? What do you love, and what are your passions? Don’t be afraid to document those things along with the more formal pictures you do.

Class of 2019

Whenever I’m around these two I feel like a terrible parent. You see, my kids seem be complain about each other, and fight constantly. These two twins are always together, even before birth, and yet they get along better than any two people I know. They love being together, laugh at each other’s jokes, and are so genuinely nice to each other I just feel happy to be around them. Why can’t my kids be like that? I wish I knew their secret.

This year they are graduating from high school. It was so fun to spend an evening at the beach with them for their senior portraits, plus one afternoon with the Eagle Scout. I’m excited to see where life takes both of them. I know they will be a huge success.

Family Fun

Families are messy, crazy, chaotic, frustrating, full of drama and strife, but at the end of the day they love each other fiercely. My children whine, and constantly bicker with each other, but when my oldest went away to school they were all in tears. It’s a crazy dynamic where you all drive each other crazy, but you can’t live without each other.

Below are 5 different families, all in the same location. Each one was a set of different personalities and dynamics, but they all kept me smiling and laughing behind the camera.

Explosions of Love

I’ve had the honor of photographing this family since their oldest was a newborn. I could have them in front of my camera everyday and not get sick of them. They are not afraid to be goofy, and play with their kids. Those smiles are genuine and full of love, and it makes me so happy to see them. It’s hard to choose my favorites, but those hugs with daddy, and the emotions on their faces just makes me love to be alive.
